The Dawn of BSL & Co 

Mr. Boon Suan Lee has always been reputed in the business community for his tax, corporate and financial expertise.  As an esteemed Senior Tax Partner in one of Singapore’s most well-known international accounting firms, he has worked closely with local SMEs as well as international MNCs for many years.

Always passionate about helping businesses to succeed, Mr. Boon began to set up his own practice to offer professional services and business advisory that is on par with the best in business – and highly personalized to every client. 

As the founder of BSL & Co, Mr Boon goes above and beyond his call of duty by providing business seminars to educate the business owners and top executives on establishing proper business processes, and how to better manage tax and finance matters in Singapore. Through the years, many client partnerships have turned into friendships and he is still the go-to person for advice.

1981

• Mr Boon Suan Lee started Boon Suan Lee & Co, a Public Accounting Firm (now BSL Public Accounting Corporation) after leaving a large international accounting firm.
• BSL Associates Pte Ltd (now BSL Corporate Services) was also incorporated to provide corporate secretarial and management consultancy services. The entity was helmed by Ms Chuang Sheue Ling, who was previously from one of Singapore’s most prestigious accounting firms, until her retirement in 2019.

1983

• BSL Consultants Pte Ltd was established.

The onboarding of heavy-weight professionals into the company, offers a greater depth and focus on our expertise services, alongside dedication and commitment to the clients’ success, helped BSL & Co’s reputation to grow steadily year after year. 

Offering only the best in class advice on corporate tax matters, BSL & Co has helped businesses save millions of dollars in income tax refunds, estate duty savings, tax due diligence on acquisitions and divestments of businesses, etc.

1985

• Boon Suan Lee & Co and all its associates became an associate member of CKL International Ltd., an international association of independent accounting firms which provide clients with a wide variety of services throughout the world.

1987

• BSL Group moved from Anson Road to their current office in Midpoint Orchard.
• Start of BSL computerization automation program.

1989

• Mr Brian Santa Maria, previously head of tax division in an international accounting firm, joined Boon Suan Lee & Co as Director of Taxes.

1996

• Boon Suan Lee & Co became a member of AGN International – the leading worldwide association of independent firms that meet the rigorous standards of the association.

Spirit of Excellence: Digitisation & Staff Training & Development

Being a firm believer in continuous learning, Mr Boon made sure that staff received not only up-to-date training on changes in accounting and tax rules in Singapore but also on how to be more productive at work. 

As an early adopter of technology, business transformation was an overall key driver in raising productivity levels overall, which lead to clients benefitting from value-added solutions and augmenting top-notch delivery. People, process and digitalization were at the heart of BSL & Co.’s work philosophy.  Keeping true to the spirit of raising the bar, BSL & Co. developed its own in-house accounting and tax software and retailed this solution to other tax companies in the Asia Pacific region.  

Always striving for excellence, BSL & Co. grew into a trusted name with local businesses and international businesses looking to start a presence in Singapore. 

A New Wave: New Entities & New Leaders Focusing on Specialty Services

To provide a greater depth of specialty services, BSL Group of Companies reorganized the separate entities and talents that run independently to better serve clients and their business needs. 

1997

• BSL Associates Pte Ltd became BSL Corporate Services Pte Ltd.

2003

• Incorporation of  BSL Advisory Services Pte Ltd.

2005

• Both BSL Tax Services Pte Ltd and BSL Public Accounting Corporation were established.
• BSL Management Services Pte Ltd was incorporated a few months later.

2007

• BSL Business Resources Pte Ltd was incorporated.

Continuing the Legacy

As a Singaporean home brand, the pioneer leaders of BSL & Co laid the foundation and built a strong team of the best in class accounting, audit and tax professionals.   By challenging oneself to grow 10% personally every year, Mr Boon’s motto lives on, for many more decades to come.

Presently, the new generation of leaders in the BSL Group of Companies, groomed personally by the pioneer leaders, continue to uphold and execute the values of dedication, ownership, and raising the BSL bar to continue the legacy into the future.
